HFC networks to compete with FTTH?

Posted August 5th, 2005

Telephony Online have an interesting article about DOCSIS 3, a protocol which will increase the bandwidth capabilities of Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) networks. DOCSIS 3 equipment is due for release in 2006. If it delivers 100mb/s to the premise, it may delay Fiber to the home (FTTH) deployments in countries that already have coax networks. Those countries that do not have such HFC deployments would be more likely to deploy FTTH than install coax at this late stage. Telephony Online go on to say Delivery of High Definition Video is likely to be the driver for such higher bandwidth services.

White LCD?

Posted August 3rd, 2005

Ever turned on a Y70 fusion splicer, and been faced with a white screen?

This is caused by having the contrast set too high. The small dial on the front of the LCD is the contrast adjustment. A similar problem can occur by inadvertantly turning the contrast down and seeing a dark screen.

This is an easy mistake to make, and also easy to fix!
