Last Wednesday the Mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoe, announced a tender to provide a fibre optic network throughout Paris. The french news site Nouvel Obs (New Observer) goes on to say they want to support the development of the FTTx network so as to provide free internet access and local telephony to Parisians..

The next day, President of France, Jacques Chirac, announced intentions to adopt an advanced fibre optic communications network for all of France. Chirac spoke of “…the importance of being pioneers in the development of digital television and technologies with strong potential.”

France’s announcement follows closely after last month’s announcement of municipal fibre deployments in Amsterdam. Expect to see more deployment announcements as cities and
countries realise the productivity benefits that dark fibre networks afford their companies and citizens.

Such deployments will ftypically be outsourced to installers and contracting companies as part of the tendering process. The specification of new generation fibre optics will see further demand for fusion splicers with dispersion shifted and NZDS fibre splicing capabilities.

Of course, Yamasaki Optical Technology can provide the equipment for installations such as these with with the Y80 fusion splicer.
